Trip description

How to gain more confidence when moving on a glacier? How to plan a safe hike in the mountains?

Mountain movement training is intended for everyone who wants to be able to plan a glacier hike and learn the basic principles of moving on a glacier. How to pull your partner out of a crevasse, make a belaying position in the snow and stop the fall with an ice axe. He trains on different terrains: snow, ice, rock and mix. The course takes place in blocks of 5 days and is intended for both beginners and advanced students. One day of demonstration tour is included.

Glacier VHT courses take place in attractive glacier areas: Dachstein, Granatspitzgruppe and Silvretta. In 2024, it will tentatively be held at the Oberwalderhutte.

What can you look forward to?

Program

The program runs for 5 days and is specified in advance depending on the experience of the group or according to individual requirements.

1st day: departure from the Czech Republic in the morning, arrival in Austria, ascent to the cottage, accommodation, afternoon and evening – start, introductory safety information, theory of equipment,
2nd day: movement on snow and glaciers (without crampons, with crampons, with an ice axe, with poles), stopping individual falls, belaying with an ice ax, etc., abseiling descent, evening – theory, stands,
3rd day: preparation for a hike on a glacier, principles of movement, belaying a group, catching falls, pulling out of a crevasse, evening – theory, planning the hike,
4th day: sample hike (according to the preparation of the plan from the previous day), supplemented with advice and assessment, evening – weather theory,
5th day: morning – final review of acquired skills (movement and belaying on ice, belay stations), afternoon – descent into the valley, departure to Bohemia.

Who is the event for?

This event is intended for both beginners and advanced players. For everyone who wants to gain confidence when moving in the mountains. We will move in snow, glacier, rock and mixed terrains.

Further course details

During teaching, we will focus intensively on practical training and individual approaches. The group has a maximum of 6 participants per UIAGM mountain guide. A minimum of 5 participants for the tour. Each UIAGM mountain guide respects the usual number of guests on the rope in his work due to the local location, the hike and the type of event organized. Furthermore, due to the overall guarantee of safety, the difficulty of the terrain, and the physical and mental abilities of the guests. An active mountain guide is proven by a valid international UIAGM license with a paid annual fee. If you are participating in any event where a rope is necessary for progress and you are moving in mountaineering terrain, demand as customers, even from a travel agency, a qualified person, a UIAGM mountain guide, who will choose an adequate number of people in relation to the objectives of the event. According to European laws, a MOUNTAIN guide with a valid UIAGM license is the only person who is allowed to guide his guests on glaciers.

What is included in the course price?

Price includes:
Event leadership by a UIAGM mountain guide.
Organizational provision of the event on site

Accommodation, food

What insurance do you recommend?

Insurance/advantageous annual Alpenverein membership. We also offer Uniqa insurance for so-called "uninsurable" sports under the guidance of a UIAGM mountain guide.

Where will we stay?

We will live at the Adamek cottage, half board with AV accommodation approx. 50 Euro/person/night, more at www.adamek.at. In other areas on Rudolfshütte or Oberwalderhütte.

How do I get to the event?

A) By car guide – e.g. meeting with Víťa Novák in Planá nad Lužnicí and departure together in one car to the training place, departure in the morning at 5:00 a.m. Travel expenses are covered by the participants according to the actual situation. In the case of other areas, the meeting is by agreement with the relevant guide.
B) By the guest's car – it is necessary to pick up a guide according to the place of agreement. Costs are covered by the participants.
