Would you like to try ice climbing? Would you like to improve your climbing skills?

We offer you one-day climbing with a UIAGM mountain guide in Labské dol. We can get down to the very basics of climbing and possibly kick-start your longer-term training plan in case the ice takes your fancy.

On the ice, it is possible to choose suitable climbing lines of various levels of difficulty. We will focus on practicing climbing techniques. Both beginners and advanced climbers will try more challenging climbing lines. Belaying a co-climber as well as the basics of working with a rope and abseiling is a necessary knowledge. If you do not master these skills, we can provide you with training on the climbing wall.

The UIAGM mountain guide has the highest international license to work in the mountains and has liability insurance.

What can you look forward to?

Program

Climbing with top belay on inclined to vertical ice. The difficulty will be chosen according to the ability of the participants and the current ice conditions. Practicing the correct ice climbing technique. Demonstration of building stands and abseiling stations (from screws, Abalak's clock, ice "pear").

Who is the event for?

Climbing is intended mainly for those who already have experience with climbing in general. On the ice, it is possible to choose suitable climbing lines of various levels of difficulty. The event is also suitable for experienced icebreakers who want to improve their belaying techniques and climbing team procedures.

How big is the group?

We climb ice from 1 person to max. 4 people per UIAGM mountain guide. An individual price is set for individual applicants.

What do I need to know?

It is essential to know the belaying of a fellow climber, the basics of rope work and abseiling. If you're not sure, don't be afraid to discuss it with us.

What to take with you?

Mandatory equipment:
Belay (HMS carabiner + belay) - all other material (screws, express, rope) will be provided by the UIAGM mountain guide.
Climbing helmet, seat, ice axe, crampons (if you do not have your own equipment, we will arrange the next procedure)
Clothing and footwear:
Waterproof - softshell pants and jacket - in spring conditions
Winter trousers + insulating underpants, primaloft jacket, vest + insulating underlayer (for girls, a down jacket for sure) – in winter conditions below minus 5 degrees.
Gloves (ideally waterproof with insulation - ski mountaineering, ice climbing or work + one warmed after ice climbing)
The most important part of ice climbing equipment is footwear – compatible with crampons !!!
Footwear category D is the most suitable, exceptionally you can also use ski mountaineering boots
A scarf under the helmet
A helmet
Ski mountaineering, ski or glacier goggles
What to take with you in your backpack:
Basic first aid kit
A thermos with a hot drink, a snack
Headlamp
Personal documents, insurance card, mobile phone

How do I get to the ice?

Labský důl: The ice is located approx. 5 km from the Špindlerův Mlýn parking lot by the Medvědín slope. The path leads along the modified "Be Fit" cross-country trail, then across the Elbe and through the terrain to the actual access to the ice. Ski mountaineering skis are the best transport :).

Can I arrange another date?

Usually, the ice is properly "swollen" from about mid-January. When the season is good, you can easily climb until the end of March. We can update the dates in response to ice conditions and current climate conditions. If the offered days (Thursday) do not suit you, the UIAGM guide will help you find another, more suitable date.

What do I have to do to participate in the event?

Submit your application using the form on this page. After receiving this application, we will send you a travel contract and other necessary information. The deposit must be paid within 10 days from the conclusion of the contract by bank transfer. Additional payment for the event according to the instructions in the travel contract.
