abbreviated as ÖAV or AV - brings together all interested parties and lovers of mountains and mountain nature, as well as all active and sports-oriented individuals and families. It is a voluntary association, everyone becomes a member of this association based on their voluntary decision.
The Alpenverein is the largest sports association in Austria, managing and maintaining 26,000 km of mountain roads and footpaths. It offers a wide range of outdoor and mountain activities, and takes care of more than 1,000 sections of children and youth. An extensive system of education and courses is available for members of the Alpenverein. Leisure activities insurance is part of the membership.
